Cognitive Psychology
— PSYC 232 (3)
Explore the inter-disciplinary field of cognitive science. We will examine common themes and topics (e.g., mind representation and computation, the mind-body problem, consciousness, & machine thinking) that are investigated by the disciplines of psychology, philosophy, computer science, linguistics, and neuroscience. As such, its emphasis is on broad coverage of important concepts rather than detailed analysis of any single area. No prior knowledge or experience with any of the sub-fields is assumed or necessary. Ideally, this course will lead students to understand the commonalities, as well as the differences, among the various approaches to cognitive science.
