Marriage Preparation Course

engaged couple holding hands The Family Life Centre is hosting a Marriage Preparation course for engaged couples. The course will use the PREPARE® materials that couples will need to complete before the course date, and it will include presentations to the group along with times for couple discussions.

Registered Psychotherapists Wilma and Stephen will be walking couples through the assessments along with talking about topics such as: Stressors in relationships, strengths, areas of growth, and building better communication skills.

*Course is limited to 20 couples*


 Wilma Wilma Nevers, MDiv, RP, RMFT

A certified Psychometrics practitioner, Wilma enjoys supporting people in their quest for career satisfaction and maximum personal potential. Wilma provides clinical supervision to therapists; psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families; and facilitates groups, seminars and workshops. She has passion and commitment for couple relationships, providing help through preparing for and strengthening marriages, parenting together, and healthy ways of separating and parenting should the need arise. Wilma brings her earlier training in management to the administrative aspects of the counselling profession. She also has experience within the family court system where she presented as a mental health clinician in the Mandatory Information Programme. 

Stephen Stephen Parr, MA, RP

Steve’s 20 years working in international, cross-cultural settings in the areas of theological education, leadership and personnel have given him a valuable multicultural perspective on people and organizations. He has also worked with clients with ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. Steve has a passion for personal development and spirituality and is interested in topics such as trauma, eating disorders, anger management, life transitions and grief.

The course will use the PREPARE® materials which cost $35 US. The online assessment must be completed by January 24th 2018. Detailed reports will be given to couples the day of the workshop.

The Prepare-Enrich® materials have been designed to help couples identify their strengths and weaknesses, major sources of stress, and to build better communication and conflict-resolution skills. First developed by psychologist David Olson, the assessment tool has a strong research and scientific background and has been updated a number of times following additional research. Over 3 million couples from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and faith backgrounds have completed the inventory, and more than 8000 professional facilitators in Canada use it regularly.

Couples will be emailed a link to Enrich Canada to complete the online inventory when they register through Eventbrite. 


$150 +HST - This includes a ticket for the couple, lunch, and light refreshments. *Does NOT include cost of the online assessment. 


$1.00 an hour / $4.00 for the day. Payment and registration car at the front reception desk.


Lunch and light refreshments are included in the cost. Please indicate any dietary restrictions you have when you register.
