EDU Library August Workshop: Finding Children’s Literature

Are you looking for the best picture books to teach about a special topic for your class? Perhaps you already have a good book and want to find another on a similar theme? Or maybe you’re just looking for a good kid’s book to read and want to find the latest award-winning title?

If you answered “YES” to any one of the questions above, then you will want to sign-up for August’s workshop on how to find children’s and young adults’ literature at the Education Library. Attendees of this workshop will learn strategies on how to search for children’s and young adults’ books by subject, grade, and award.

Upcoming Library Workshops Offered Through the J. William Horsey Library

The J. William Horsey Library will be holding the following two FREE workshops on the following dates:

Are you interested in learning how to find books and e-books at the Tyndale libraries?  Are you interested in learning practical tips on how the navigate the collections and to develop a topic for your research paper at the same time? If so, we invite you to come out for this workshop on finding books at the library.

In this practical workshop you will learn how to effectively use the Tyndale library catalog, OnTRAC, to find books and e-books available through the library. You will also be introduced to the Library of Congress subject headings and how you can use those subject headings to help you focus on a topic for your paper.

Do you need to find scholarly journal articles but don’t know where to start? Are you overwhelmed with the amount of information that is available electronically through the library? In this workshop you will learn what scholarly articles are and how to find them through the Tyndale libraries. You will also learn how to develop an effective research strategy that you can use to find the best scholarly journal articles through the Tyndale libraries.

Education Library Mini-tour: Books, books, books, and more books

The Education Library will be hosting the first of a series of mini-tours on the following dates:

Tuesday, July 20, 2010 (12:0o p.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

Tuesday, July 27, 2010 (12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

The first mini-tour called “Books, books, books, and more books” is about finding printed and electronic books through the Tyndale Library System.

Attendees of this mini-tour will be:

  • introduced to the Library of Congress cataloging system
  • provided instruction on how to use the library catalog OnTRAC
  • introduced to the e-Book collection available through the Tyndale library website

If you are interested in signing up for one of the mini-tours please contact Mark Mueller at mmueller@tyndale.ca. You may also sign up for one of the mini-tours at the Education Library circulation desk.

Introducing the Education Library Mini-Tours

Are you interested in learning more about the resources at the Tyndale libraries but don’t have time to attend a one-hour workshop?

Have you ever wanted to attend a library workshop but were unable to attend due to scheduling constraints?

If you answered “YES” to any of these questions then you might be interested in attending an Education Library mini-tour.

These Education Library mini-tours are designed for busy users seeking in-depth library instruction. The mini-tours are 30 minutes in length and will cover a different topic every other week.

The mini-tours will be scheduled for lunch-hour at the Education Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Visit the Tyndale Library blog (www.tyndale.ca/libraryblog) often to find out what parts of the collection the library will be covering for that week.
