EDU Library August Workshop: Finding Children’s Literature

Topic for August: Finding Children’s Literature

Are you looking for the best picture books to teach about a special topic for your class? Perhaps you already have a good book and want to find another on a similar theme? Or maybe you’re just looking for a good kid’s book to read and want to find the latest award-winning title?

If you answered “YES” to any one of the questions above, then you will want to sign-up for August’s workshop on how to find children’s and young adults’ literature at the Education Library. Attendees of this workshop will learn strategies on how to search for children’s and young adults’ books by subject, grade, and award.

Sign-up sheets are located at the circulation desk at the Education Library. For more information, please contact Mark Mueller at mmueller@tyndale.ca or at Extension 2227.

Financial Soccer is a multiple-choice question game, testing players’ knowledge of financial management skills as they advance down field, and try to score goals. Although the information is US-based there are some resources this fast-paced game does have resources that encourages users to think about Financial Literacy and terms that are used in the financial world.  Educators are encouraged to review and download the lesson modules, at right, before actual game play. If you’re already warmed up and ready to play, click the button above to begin.

New Resource: Oxford Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature Online

The Oxford Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature is now available for all Tyndale library users to access online.

Look up Oxford Encyclopedia of Children’s Literature in the Oxford DRS tab.

This resource contains over 3,000 entries written by an international roster of more than 300 authors, the Encyclopedia comprehensively documents and interprets the books read by children throughout the world. With a global perspective that pays attention to significant international trends and the multi-cultural expansion of the field, it includes brief biographies of every major author and illustrator. Also included are feature essays on all genres of children’s literature, individual works, and prominent trends and themes, as well as general essays on the traditions of children’s literature in many countries throughout the world.
