January Workshop: Finding Children’s Literature

When: Every Tuesday & Thursday @ 12:00 p.m. for the month of January

Are you looking for the best picture books to teach about a special topic for your class? Perhaps you already have a good book and want to find another on a similar theme? Or maybe you’re just looking for a good kid’s book to read and want to find the latest award-winning title?

If you answered “YES” to any one of the questions above, then you will want to sign-up for January’s workshop on how to find children’s and young adults’ literature at the Education Library. Attendees of this workshop will learn strategies on how to search for children’s and young adults’ books by subject, grade, and award.

SMART Board Training & the Education Library

Would you like to use an interactive white board (SMART Board) in your classroom? Are you interested in mastering the basic skills of the SMART Board and Smart Notebook?

If so, sign-up for basic SMART Board training at the Education Library today! Attendees of this 30 minute session will learn everything they need to know to get started with the SMART Board and Smart Notebook.

Attendees of this workshop will learn tips on how to find books, educational materials and other resources at the Education library using the library catalogue OnTRAC. Attendees will also learn how to search for resources by collection, access and use their “My Accounts”, and how to locate electronic books through the Tyndale libraries website.

Education Library Lunch Talk on Open Access Resources

Are you interested in finding about where to find free resources that you can use for your professional development? Are you interested in knowing where to find high quality research materials that are available to the public for free?

If you answered the previous two questions with a resounding YES then you will want to sign up for the Lunch Talk on Open Access Resources at the Education Library today.

Attendees of this 30 minute session will learn about the types of resources freely available to the public through Knowledge Ontario and the local public library. Attendees of this workshop will also learn about the increasing number resources through the “Open Access” and how to access those resources from your home computer.

Upcoming Library Workshops Offered Through the J. William Horsey Library

The J. William Horsey Library will be holding the following two FREE workshops on the following dates:

Find a Topic and a Book @ the Tyndale Library

Are you interested in learning how to find books and e-books at the Tyndale libraries?  Are you interested in learning practical tips on how the navigate the collections and to develop a topic for your research paper at the same time? If so, we invite you to come out for this workshop on finding books at the library.

In this practical workshop you will learn how to effectively use the Tyndale library catalog, OnTRAC, to find books and e-books available through the library. You will also be introduced to the Library of Congress subject headings and how you can use those subject headings to help you focus on a topic for your paper.

Do you need to find scholarly journal articles but don’t know where to start? Are you overwhelmed with the amount of information that is available electronically through the library? You will also learn how to develop an effective research strategy that you can use to find the best scholarly journal articles through the Tyndale libraries.
