A Tribute to Walter Kimmerle

Monday, May 2, 2011

Walter Kimmerle, long-time friend and supporter of Tyndale University College & Seminary, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 29, 2011. Walter was dedicated to Christian higher education at Tyndale, culminating with a recent endowment for the Kimmerle Chair of Pentecostal Studies.

In a recent interview, Walter expressed to Tyndale his passion for helping young people know God. He desired that young people “experience a personal encounter with the Lord [and the person of] the Holy Spirit, . . . [Who] provides us with power, with comfort, with direction, and draws us closer to God. If our young people experience this power, they will be equipped to face the turbulence of this era in their everyday lives.”

Dr. Gary Nelson, President of Tyndale University College & Seminary, will miss his time with Walter. “Walter was a passionate and faithful Christian gentleman. His reputation in business for integrity and excellence made himself and his company a pleasure to work with. Walter was a great friend of Tyndale and believed in our mission with deep commitment. The Kimmerle Chair of Pentecostal Studies has opened an amazing door of opportunities for Tyndale's commitment to stimulating research and influence in the global Pentecostal movement. I personally will miss our breakfast meetings where we discussed the church and its mission in the 21st Century.”

Visitation will be held at Highland Funeral Home (3280 Sheppard Ave. E.) at the following times:

  • Tuesday, May 3, 2011 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 4, 2011 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
