Tyndale’s Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Mr. Philip Kay, won the NACCAP (North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals) award for Admissions Officer of the Year. NACCAP presents this award to an admissions professional at a Christian institution who has had the best performance in admissions in all of North America and has completed three or more years of service at a member institution. The award was presented on June 5, 2011 at the annual NACCAP conference, hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. Over 100 universities, colleges and other organizations were represented at the conference.

Phil was caught by surprise by the award because a member of his staff had nominated him without his knowledge. Phil says that, “The only way that I’ve received any recognition for this award is because I’ve got one of the best staffs in any Christian school in North America.” Admissions Councillor Nathan Martin describes Phil as “a very approachable guy who handles the team really well. He’s a caring individual who puts a lot of effort into his job and he brings a lot of technical skills so that Admissions runs smoothly.” Nathan cites Phil’s I.T. background as an asset to the Tyndale admissions team, “he taught me new ways of handling the recruitment job and he brought new and innovative material to the department. He is busy as the Director of Admissions, yet his door is open and he is continually asking for our feedback.”

Phil began at the Tyndale I.T. department in 2001. He was drawn to Tyndale because he “believed the idea of an evangelical university in Toronto needed to be strengthened.” “Tyndale really fills a hole in Toronto,” he continues, “It’s clear that God has a big plan for Tyndale. I’m glad that I’ve been a part of God’s plan for Tyndale by helping attract new students.” Phil moved to the Admissions Office in November 2006 and the numbers make it clear that he has helped: The number of students attending Tyndale University College & Seminary has grown by over 10% in the last year, the number of accepted students at the University College has increased steadily since fall 2007 and was up 27% in the fall 2010 semester from fall 2009.

“The next 3-5 years are going to be more exciting than the last 15,” Phil states. Considering the upcoming consolidation onto the Bayview campus in 2013, the $52 million raised for the new campus and new programs and that the number of accepted students in the University College has increased by 285% over the last 15 years, Tyndale is in for some exciting years.
