Looking Ahead

What are some ways that we can promote Christian Education among our churches?

A major commitment in my ministry is to be available to preach in churches and promote CE. During such “CE Sundays,” I encourage the church to have all the teachers present so at the end of the sermon, Sunday school teachers can be acknowledged. All teachers would proceed to the front, be prayed for by the pastor and then each teacher will receive a gift for their work of investing in the lives of the people. This exposes the congregation to the importance of CE.

To promote CE effectively we need teachers who are passionate models of dynamic educational ministries. We consistently face the problem of shortage of teachers. I am considering starting a program at Tyndale especially for Sunday school teachers. It might be a “Diploma in CE,” where teachers can study theology, Bible, church history, and some courses in educational theory. The goal is to equip teachers with basic knowledge so they will be confident and effective.

Thank you for giving me the chance to talk about CE, which is really my delight and passion. When I talk about CE I get very excited! CE in a nutshell is really about the life and ministry of the church. We are involved in forming the church to live out her calling, which is to embody Christ in and for the world. This is a vision worth living for.
