Melissa studied and worked at the Canada Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and ACTS Seminaries at Trinity Western University. She has taught Phonetics and served as a linguistic specialist in Rwanda training teachers for ESL work.

Her current area of interest is the intersection of theology, culture and linguistics.
