About Tyndale University College

Tyndale University College formally began in 2003 but the story about this great school goes back many years before that. In 1894, Tyndale began in the heart of Toronto. Over the years, the names have changed several times but the goal has always remained the same: to educate and equip people to serve the world.

Tyndale moved to its Ballyconnor campus in 1976 after purchasing the property from an order of Jesuit priests. The move to the north of the city provided Tyndale with the space it needed to grow and thrive.

As the school grew, a desire arose for Tyndale to be a school that would not just train people for ministry, but also provide people, in a Christian environment, with the tools to be successful in all areas of life. To this end, a Christian university was conceived. An application was made to the provincial government in 2002 for Tyndale to be allowed to grant the Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2003, the bill was passed by the legislature and became law.

The school has experienced steady growth, especially in the number of faculty and the quality of these professors. Where the school had 14 faculty members in 2002 (the year before it began as a university), today it has 24, plus many adjunct and part-time faculty. Despite steady student growth at the university, Tyndale has maintained its strong tradition of academic excellence and a positive study environment due to its low student/faculty ratio. Tyndale has developed innovative programs and our graduates are desired by companies and organizations in the Christian and the secular world. A new Bachelor of Education program will also soon be ready for applications.

Tyndale faculty have studied at some of the most prestigious, largest universities in the world. They come to teach at Tyndale because they have a strong desire to integrate faith with learning. Students love the fact that their professors support their faith, as well as the interaction and hands-on teaching approach that they receive at Tyndale.

Students at Tyndale also love the many benefits the school has to offer. There is a strong sense of community and the relationships developed at Tyndale, with faculty and with students, are a product of loving Christian environment.

imageLocated in Toronto, students have access to many advantages not available at many small schools, including visiting speakers, academic conferences, library resources and extra-curricular activities. Tyndale is located in a safe and friendly residential enclave in the north of the city, far from the congestion of the downtown core.

A new feature of Tyndale that students are looking forward to is the Bayview campus. Classes will begin at this property shortly and the university will completely move to the Bayview property in 2010. This is a large, beautiful campus that will enable Tyndale to continue to provide top-quality liberal arts and professional education with a Christian worldview.
