Over 400 page views came from Seneca College – most of these would have come from http://www.senecac.on.ca/degreetransfer/guide/tyndale-university-college.html

Almost 300 page views came through facebook

ATS (ats.edu) brought 261 page views

Links on denominational websites such as paonl.ca and agcofcanada.com accounted for about 200 page views

I — along with a team from my church — will be heading to Africa on April 16th for a short term mission trip. We will be working with the Villages of Hope Africa in Kitwe Zambia installing/repairing a computer lab in a community school that serves over 700 kids. Some of these kids live right in the village orphanage (~170) while the majority come to the school from nearby shanty-towns.

First let me say — I have raised all my financial support! This is not a plea for financial help — but rather a plea for your prayers and a chance to answer the many questions I have been getting about my upcoming trip.

We do have a website put together if you would like more details about what we are doing. The site can be found at: www.mymission.ca/zambia

One of the things I am looking forward to the most is meeting 2 of our supported children. As a family we support 3 kids in Africa – 2 of those are in Zambia and 1 lives in the Village of Hope orphanage I am going to work at. The second attends the community school. I hope to meet both of these boys and will be bringing some special gifts for them.

I will be traveling from April 16th to May 3rd – I would deeply cherish your prayers for myself and my family while I am gone.

Jacob Mantle, Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) President at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario, has been asked to resign following a recent Facebook comment posted on a friend’s wall. The photo was of two girls wearing scarves and sunglasses. The comment read “I like your Taliban picture”.

While I am sure his comments were intended to be a joke — they have sparked tension at Queen’s and have been labeled as racial and ethnic discrimination.

On a number of occasions I have had the opportunity to speak to our Tyndale freshmen students regarding Internet safety — helping them understand just how their remarks on a public web site may be damaging to their future. This is a prime example.

Mantle has made public apologies to the Queen’s community and is considering resigning from his position. If he refuses to resign he may face an impeachment process to have him removed.

This simple comment has caused great embarrassment to both him and Queen’s University and has stained the future of this student.

Those of you who drop by my office from time-to-time may have discovered two things about my morning routine. 1) I have to have my cup of coffee, and 2) I love to make coffee rings!

To help manage my busy life I use a self-created time management sheet. I have this on my desk at all times and I use it to keep my work life on track. Recently I have decided to intentionally make coffee rings on this sheet each morning – not sure why…

One thing I have discovered in this process is that there is design in anything and everything – even in my coffee rings. Now if my coffee rings were the exact same each day this exercise would have stopped on day three. The rings are all different – they have different designs. The example I posted here (created on October 30, 2008) is a great example of the depth of colour you can achieve. This is determined by how much coffee is on the bottom of your cup, how much the paper absorbs, if there is another piece of paper below it that also absorbs, any drips that may occur… the list goes on.

Web design is also more complex than people may think. The word “design” brings to mind thoughts of how a website may look – possibly what pictures they may want to have posted. Really web design is about so much more.

There is the design of the information architecture, design for usability, design of navigation and don’t forget the content (copy) layout! Should we consider good code design – xhtml, css, PHP, javascript – all working together. Database design… is your database optimized? How about search engine optimization design – do you want the website to be found?

Okay – I could go on here forever – my point is this: a Website design (or redesign) project encompasses so much more than the basic look & feel of the web site. At first glance my coffee ring may look like a simple spill or a mess – trust me – it is so much more.

Next time you are down near my office drop in and I will show you the coffee ring of the day and we can chat about the beauty of design.
