Position Description
Tyndale Seminary invites applications for a staff position in Counselling. This is a full-time staff position, where the incumbent would be expected to fulfill their role at 100% of a regular work week.
The selected candidate will be part of a department offering a full range of clinical counselling courses that integrate rigorous theoretical understanding with applied psychotherapy methods and skills. The counselling program, one of the largest programs in the seminary, prepares students for professional clinical practice in counselling and psychotherapy. The integration of spirituality and practice is a program distinctive.
Primary Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Master of Divinity (MDiv) Counselling – Clinical Track and Master of Arts (MA) – Clinical Counselling Internship Program. This internship program is integral for students and is a key pre-requisite for their graduation. This role includes the following responsibilities, each with varying number and magnitude of tasks:
- Develop and maintain an internship program structure and function that meet the growing needs of the psychotherapy field in Ontario
- Develop and maintain relevant internship information and communication methods for the current and prospective internship sites and for students. These communication methods include webpages, handbook, syllabi, course resource pages (MOODLE), e-mail messages, etc.
- Liaise with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO) on relevant clinical experience matters as they relate to the internship program structure and operations
- Interact with the CRPO on any matters of inquiry or audit relating to applicants from Tyndale’s internship program
- Develop and maintain close contact and communication with prospective and existing internship organizations, with regards to new intern positions, checking in on existing interns’ progress (once per semester for each intern) and resolving interns’ performance, or compliance issues
- Conduct Internship Orientation Session for prospective interns in the fall semester
- Manage and facilitate the internship application process for students
- Match each student with available sites that match their preference and forward students’ application to the respective sites
- Develop and maintain accurate records of students’ internship applications and matched sites
- Organize and direct the Internship Reflection seminar each semester for all interns
- Organize, manage, and facilitate additional clinical supervision sessions in cooperation with the Wellness Centre (primarily) for interns who do not have an RP qualified clinical supervisor
- Update and maintain all internship assignments and documentation forms, templates, and tools
- Conduct comprehensive evaluation of each intern and maintain accurate records of assignments/requirements completion, and submit final internship course grades
- Grader students’ Capstone Papers as part of their internship completion requirements
- Advise students in relation to their internship requirements, which includes application, progress and challenges, completion, and professional registrations
Position Qualifications
Education
- Masters degree in relevant discipline
- Must be a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with CRPO
- Membership (or eligibility for membership) in a professional body (e.g. AAMFT or CAMFT)
Experience
- Supervisory experience is mandatory, with proven ability to mentor students / beginning therapists
- Demonstrated experience interacting well with agencies and other organizations which offer student internships
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated capacity for thoughtful and intentional integration of faith and practice
- Ability to effectively relate to a multicultural, multidenominational, multigenerational student body
Personal Characteristics
Demonstrated collegial style committed to collaboration with colleagues within the institution and the broader professional community
