Tyndale Seminary invites applications for a faculty position in Counselling. This is a full-time faculty position, although consideration will be given to an 80% position if the incumbent wishes to maintain a part-time counselling practice.
The selected candidate will be part of a department offering a full range of clinical counselling courses that integrate rigorous theoretical understanding with applied psychotherapy methods and skills. The counselling program, one of the largest programs in the seminary, prepares students for professional clinical practice in counselling and psychotherapy. The integration of spirituality and practice is a program distinctive. The incumbent will teach foundational courses in counselling theories and methods, family systems, as well as courses in one’s area of specialization. Teaching, scholarship, and service comprise the three-fold responsibilities of all faculty members.
Tyndale Seminary is an accredited, graduate school of theology in the Christian tradition offering programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. Part of Tyndale University College & Seminary, the school is a faith-based, degree-granting postsecondary institution in the province of Ontario. Located in North Toronto, the seminary’s student body is denominationally and multiculturally diverse. The counselling program is a professionally-recognized, graduate-level program of study providing students with educational preparation for credentialed clinical practice and spiritual care ministries.
The successful candidate will have academic and professional credentials in counselling/psychotherapy, significant professional experience, proven clinical skills preferably from a family systems perspective, and intercultural competencies. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research is required.
While all applications will be considered, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. As a faith-based institution of higher learning, the successful candidate will align with Tyndale’s Statement of Faith and will demonstrate a capacity to integrate faith and learning.
- Doctoral degree desired as well as significant clinical counselling experience;
- Membership (or eligibility for membership) in a professional body (e.g. AAMFT) or College of Registered Psychotherapists;
- Supervisory experience an asset, with proven ability to mentor students / beginning therapists;
- Demonstrated capacity for thoughtful and intentional integration of faith and practice;
- Ability to effectively relate to a multicultural, multidenominational, multigenerational student body;
- Demonstrated collegial style committed to collaboration with colleagues within the institution and the broader professional community.
