Dr. Leonard (Casey) Church

Casey Church, D.IC.
Casey is a Pokagon Band Potawatomi member. His Potawatomi name is Hole in the Cloud. He is Bear clan from his mother’s side, a Pokagon Band Potawatomi member and Crane clan from his father’s side, of the Nottawasippi Huron Band. He and his wife Lora have five children and he lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Casey learned Anishinaabe traditions from traditional elders sharing their knowledge of spiritual teachings. He has also studied and earned degrees in science and inter-cultural studies, which have led to his current work in education.

Casey and Lora have pastored a Native church (one of the first contextualized worship services in United States) and led Native Christian ministries in the southwest US and other regions.

Author of several books, Casey enjoys cooking, running, and Powwow dancing. He is an accomplished traditional cradleboard and old style coil build pottery maker and enjoys teaching these crafts to his children and being involved in their lives academically and in sports.

Mr. Church is teaching a course on Theology II: Theology and Ethic of the Land in the Spring Summer 2019 semester.
