M.Sc., M. Div.
A pastor and spiritual director, Rick is currently retired from pastoral ministry at both Spring Garden Church, North York, and The Meeting House, Oakville Site, supporting small group community, spiritual formation, prayer, care, and relationship ministry teams. Having been in spiritual direction for over 30 years, he trained at Tyndale Seminary and has grown in providing spiritual direction to a broad variety of people during the past 12 years. He has a special interest in journeying with pastors. Rick partners with the Holy Spirit, helping people recognize, experience, and respond to God in everyday life.
As described by Dr. David G. Benner in Sacred Companions:
“… spiritual direction is a one-on-one relationship organized around prayer and conversation directed toward deepening intimacy with God. . . . Spiritual directors are not experts, nor do they direct. They do not follow a standardized curriculum or implement a prepackaged program. Rather, they journey with others who, like themselves, are committed to the process of spiritual transformation in Christ. And most important, they seek to help those with whom they journey discern the presence and leading of the Spirit of God—the One Jesus sent as our true Spiritual Director.”
Rick facilitates a whole-person, Jesus-centred approach, empowering directees to discover, heal, and thrive in their relationship with God. He enjoys helping directees explore how their personality, learning style, and spiritual “wiring” combine with pertinent spiritual practices to overcome barriers and encourage their God-connection. Husband, father, and grandfather, Rick is most at home with family, on a hiking trail, in a canoe, or in his garden.
