One-on-One Consultations

In light of the rapidly changing circumstances around COVID-19, Writing and Tutoring Services will be operating remotely for the remainder of the semester. One-on-one consultations is the main method of support we offer students. Our qualified upper-year undergraduate and seminary consultants are trained to work side-by-side with students in all disciplines, teaching you what to look for to strengthen your writing. Bring an assignment at any stage of the writing process to your appointment and our team will help you to begin, organize, develop, or polish your writing.

Should I Book in Advance?

We will accommodate drop-in visits if our schedule allows. However, to guarantee your session and to give yourself ample time for revision, we encourage you to book well in advance of paper deadlines.

Don’t have a paper you’re currently working on? Our consultants are happy to talk with you more generally about writing aspects you may find challenging. You are also welcome to bring in essays that have already been graded to received detailed suggestions for improvement in future papers. But please note that we are not able to help with take-home midterms or exams.

Sometimes professors will recommend a student book an appointment with a Writing Consultant for assistance. We strongly encourage following their recommendations. The Academic Standards Committee may also require a student to go to the Centre for assistance and support.

Policies

Our team strives to cultivate professional and respectful relationships with the users of our services. To help facilitate this goal, we hold all students to the following standards of courtesy:

  • Please be punctual. If you do not arrive within the first 10 minutes of your scheduled appointment, we may reassign your session to another student.
  • If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we request at least 20 hours' notice. If you need to cancel within that time, you will have to contact us directly. To respect our team and to ensure valuable time and resources are not wasted, we maintain a two-strike policy for late cancellations and missed appointments across all Centre for Academic Excellence services.
  • Please endeavour to treat each member of our team with respect. Access to these services is a privilege and this privilege may be revoked if serious or repeated behavioural concerns are identified.

As a Tyndale student, you can request either 2 half hour appointments or 1 hour-long appointment of writing and/or tutoring help per week, subject to consultant availability.
