On Wednesday, May 16, Tyndale will be hosting a community wide farewell for the owners and staff of J&T’s Catering. This will be a time to say thank you to those who have served with care the students, faculty and staff of Tyndale for 15 years.
With the transition to the new campus, Tyndale will have a new food service provider to meet the expanding and shifting needs of the Tyndale community. “While we are excited to see what’s next, we want to thank J&T for their service,” says Karen Soltau, Supervisor of Campus Services.
On May 12, 2012 Tyndale University College and Seminary will confer honorary doctorates on Dr. Pierre Allard and Dr. John Wilkinson. “Dr. Allard and Dr. Wilkinson represent the best of what we hope for in our graduates,” said Dr. Gary Nelson, President of Tyndale University College and Seminary.
Dr. Allard will be honoured during Tyndale Seminary’s graduation ceremony and Dr. Wilkinson will be honoured at the Tyndale University College graduation ceremony.
Intimate class sizes afford Tyndale UC Psychology students the opportunity to work closely with professors to develop in-depth research projects. As part of their research courses, students are encouraged to do high-level research and present their findings at conferences.
Throughout the year, students work collaboratively with professors and conduct research studies. They have the opportunity to present their findings at the annual Tyndale Student Research Symposium. Afterwards, many elaborate on their work and submit their abstracts to psychological associations.
Tyndale Board of Governors member, Beverley Muir, was honoured by the Punjabi Community Health Services on International Women's Day, March 9. Muir is the Principal of Humberwood Downs Junior Middle Academy, is actively involved in the Toronto District School Board, and her unique perspective and experience was featured in the fall/winter 2011/12 issue of Tyndale: the Magazine. She was honoured for her work within the community and for her efforts to create partnerships based on cultural sensitivity.
Toronto--Graduating students in black gowns processed into the chapel for their final time in worship with the Tyndale community. Held in the chapel at the Bayview campus, the April 10th service was a time of celebrating accomplishments, blessing new ventures, and installing Dr. Stephanie Ling as Chancellor.
After extensive research that included reviewing the contents of 750 boxes in the personal archives of Margery Perham at Oxford University, Dr. Brad Faught returned to Oxford for the launch of his book, Into Africa: The Imperial Life of Margery Perham. Dr. Faught, Associate Professor of History at Tyndale, has authored the first biography of Perham, a forerunner in African studies.
In the fall of 2011, Tyndale University College & Seminary conducted a survey to find out how churches and individuals, primarily located in Ontario, are involved in their communities. The goal was to start a conversation exploring how churches and individuals in the Tyndale community are interacting with, and being part of, the larger community. In all, 343 churches and 710 individuals responded to the survey.
While Philosophy departments at Canadian universities generally represent a small fraction of the student body, at Tyndale nearly 10% of University students are pursuing a major or minor in philosophy. Students are attracted to the program, which has seen students graduate to work in the corporate world, enter law school and pursue Masters and Ph.D.’s.
This year, 43 UC and seminary students will be going on missions trips to Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA. Tyndale is excited to see growing numbers of students interested in international missions with participation more than doubled from last year.
In an age in which fog machines and strobe lights are commonplace in worship services, Dr. Edwards believes that it is the sermon that will captivate and change hearts. Deep preaching, Dr. Edward’s passion, was the subject of last week’s preaching seminar at which he was the guest speaker.
In his letter to the “twelve tribes”, James exhorted believers, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27). Although many North American Christians struggle with this verse, Marie Angela Allen, first year MDiv Clinical Counselling, and her husband Kenroy Allen find their inspiration and calling within it.
Toronto—Tyndale is proud to announce the graduation of the first class the Tyndale Intercultural Ministries (TIM) Centre. At the ceremony, 18 students were awarded certificates in Foundations in Missional Ministry & Church Leadership.
On January 28, teams of students walked around downtown Toronto handing out TTC tokens and praying with the homeless. It was, “Eye-opening and touching…it showed me how present God is”, Alex Staines said. Last Saturday, a Student Council organized event enabled 3 teams of University College students minister to homeless men and women in downtown Toronto.
Drawing Tyndale students, alumni and members of the community, the Biblical Symposium featured 7 lecturers and their work. The daylong symposium was an opportunity for the Tyndale Community to learn about current research being done in Biblical studies by Tyndale professors and alumni.
(Toronto) Tyndale University College & Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Stephanie J. Ling to the position of Chancellor. As Chancellor, Dr. Ling will inspire and celebrate success in Tyndale and serve as a bridge between Tyndale and the community by bringing , both external and internal communities together.
