Tyndale Seminary 50th Anniversary
This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tyndale Seminary, 50 years that have been defined by infinite impact across Canada and the globe.
Many stories. One mission.
Fifty years of infinite impact for the church and world for the glory of God.
In September of 1894 the Toronto Bible Training School prepared to open its doors to the first group of students enrolled in its Bible program. Students came, eager to train for ministry in Canada and around the globe. The world in which they ministered was vastly different then, with its own set of nuanced challenges.
In September of 1976, over 80 years later, the same institution welcomed another initial entering class as the Ontario Theological Seminary was established. The world this group would face held unique ethical problems brought about by recent advances in science, technology, and medicine. The Seminary was governed by three tenets. The training was to be Biblically centred, people related, and experience oriented, meaning students would become deeply involved in the ministry of the church.
Over the last 50 years, the institution has evolved, taking on new names and venturing onto new grounds, yet the initial governing principles have endured. Tyndale Seminary students are equipped to face an ever-evolving world, headstrong and stouthearted. Our community is strong in diversity, reflecting the oneness of the Kingdom of God where all nations, peoples, and tongues are united under the banner of Christ. We are bound by unity and marked by impact.
True to their namesake, Tyndale Seminarians have been committed to making the Scriptures known by all persons, carrying the Gospel into every space they venture into, sacrificially serving, modelling scholarship, Christian faith, and vision. This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tyndale Seminary, 50 years that have been defined by infinite impact across Canada and the globe. We observe a profound legacy and many stories of influence driven by one mission—to serve the church and world for the glory of God.
