Death, Dying and Grief 2026-2027 Certificate offers 6 modules, beginning October 17, 2026, running through April 10, 2027

Overview

This certificate will facilitate your understanding of the grief process, giving you resources and developing tech quests that will enable a positive approach to engaging with those in the grieving process. 

You will focus on developing an in depth understanding of biblical and spiritual truths when encountering loss and death. You will develop skills that will help you recognize and respond to the needs of others as you walk with them. 

Upon completion of 6 modules, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

  • Individual Modules:  $153.00 (includes HST)
  • Early Bird Package: All six modules can be purchased as a package for $826.00. Please note that the Early Bird Rate (10% off) is available until Friday, October 16, 2026.

Learning Format

The platform for the live streaming will be Zoom. 

Once registered and closer to the date, details concerning the format of the module and Zoom link will be sent to you.

Refund Policy

Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of event date, will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 3-6 days before the event; we will offer you a credit for future TCGL events. Cancellation requests made within 24 hours of the event may not receive a refund nor a transfer. 

If TCGL cancels an event under circumstances that would make the event non-viable, registrants will be offered a full refund. When you register for an event, you agree to these terms.

Dr. David Sherbino

Module 1 Facilitator

Dr. Sherbino has been a faculty member at Tyndale Seminary since 1987, serving previously as Chair of the Pastoral Ministries Department, Coordinator of the Worship and Liturgy program, and Dean of the Chapel. He is presently coordinating the master’s program in Spiritual Formation and the doctoral track in Spiritual Formation. David serves as coordinator of all programs in Pastoral Thanatology and is the advisor to the Tyndale Spiritual Formation Centre and the Tyndale Centre for Grief and Loss.

Dr. Rob Patterson

Module 2 & 6 Facilitator

Rob is the Lead pastor at Scott Street MB church, in St. Catharines, ON. He has enjoyed teaching at Tyndale, McMaster University, Acadia University, and Carey Theological school in Vancouver. Previously he served in Kenya, East Africa as a lecturer with Carey Theological College and Regent College. During his years as a chaplain at Spring Hills Penitentiary he began his focus in the areas of loss, grief and death. He is fluent in Swahili having immersed himself into the African culture. He has a passion for teaching and equipping those who support others through their journey of grief.

Dr. Keith Taylor

Module 3 Facilitator

Formerly Keith was a Chaplain Palliative Care, Southlake Regional Health Centre. He also worked as a Trauma Clinician, Trauma Management Group, Ottawa and was a Trainer for the Toronto North Command Firefighters for Critical Stress Incidents. Previously he was also the Director, Genesis Bereavement Resource Centre in Newmarket. After 30,5 years of serving as the Senior Pastor of Newmarket Church of the Nazarene, Keith retired in 2021. He is a Member of the Association for Death Education and Counselling. Keith is a grief educator and seminar speaker. Founder/Director: Handle with Care. Bereavement Counselling Services and author of Well-Intentioned People Say Dumb Things: Practical advice for comforting those who are grieving. He teaches at Tyndale University in the department of Thanatology. He is an advisor for Tyndale Centre for Grief and Loss.

Dr. Matthew McEwen

Module 4 Facilitator

Matthew serves as the pastor of the Holt Free Methodist Church since 2006. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Ottawa, as well as an M.Div., Th.M., and D.Min. from Tyndale Seminary. He is also a certified thanatologist and provides grief care to individuals and groups as needed. Matthew volunteers at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket, where he was inducted into the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers. He has developed a small‑group curriculum for the Free Methodist Church in Canada on dying well and teaches a module on biblical and spiritual resources for coping with loss. In his spare time, he enjoys practicing karate with his children.

Dr. Lyndsay Thompson

Dr. Lyndsay Thompson

Module 5 Facilitator

Lyndsay is an instructor at Tyndale Seminary in both the Clinical Counselling and Thanatology programs, and she also teaches in the Doctor of Ministry program. She is a Registered Psychotherapist whose clinical work focuses on children, families, and individual adults. Lyndsay completed her Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation, where her research explored the use of imagination, narrative, and somatic experiencing as pathways for spiritual growth.
