The Middle East witnessed more momentous events in the post-World War II period than any other region of the world. Study of U.S. foreign policy covers U.S.-Middle East relations during the Cold War. The major topics targeted include: the rebirth of Israel, C.I.A. covert action in Iran, Arab- Israeli conflict, Lebanese civil war, and the rise of Islamic fundamentalist groups. American public opinion and the issues of ideology, religion, oil, and mass media receive significant treatment. Prerequisites: HIST 101, 102.
