Opportunity Description
Cummer Ave Drop-Inn operates out of Cummer Ave United Church and is open every Wednesday from 8am-2pm.

We could use assistance in a variety of positions depending on your availability.

  • 6:30am -8am we could use help with setting up for the day--tables, chairs, sleeping mats, etc....or if you are more inclined helping with breakfast, and preparing the food.
  • 8am- 11:30am we serve breakfast and can use volunteers to assistance with keeping our breakfast table replenished, or helping out at the door welcoming guests (this position also requires that you assess whether guests are able to attend the program safely- for themselves and others around).
  • 12pm-2pm:  We serve guests lunch (a person is assigned 2 tables and serve restaurant style).  We can also use help cleaning up at this time.
  • 1:30pm-2:30pm:  We clean the auditorium, putting tables and chairs away, sweeping floors.

What we do:
We serve free meals: a breakfast from 8am- 11:30am and a hot lunch from 12pm-1:45pm.
We also have many agencies that use our location as a satellite location:
- The Dental Bus- through City of Toronto Public Health
- Toronto North Support Services, who assist the homeless with finding secure housing
- Doctors- through Inner City Health
- Free Id Clinic  through Partners for Access and Identification
- Nurse from Community Care Access Centre
- Clothing Bank & Shower
- Hair dresser
- OW Worker
- Willowdale Community Legal Services

Who We Serve:
Our guests are those who are homeless, low-income & seniors looking for social contact.
Many of our guests are challenged by addictions and mental illness.

Because we are a "Drop-Inn" we do not judge our guests, we do not ask for income or welfare statements.  We do our best to provide a calm, warm environment where people can have their various needs met and enjoy a meal.

You are more than welcome to come and visit the program and see if it would be a good fit for you!
