Opportunity Description

Mission Statement: "The Philip Aziz Centre is a Christian community-based hospice providing practical, emotional, and spiritual support to adults and children living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses in the comfort of their own home."

Qualifications: Ability to work with diverse people; non-judgmental; full training provided.

Nature of the Work: Opportunities in the following areas: Health Care,
Chaplaincy/Pastoral Care, Children, Volunteer Management.

Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able with work non-judgmentally with a diverse population. Full training provided (free of charge) for all three types of volunteering. Initial, mandatory hospice volunteer course is 35 hours long and is standardized by the Hospice Association of Ontario. This training is offered three times per year and must be completed prior to serving with a client.

Responsibilities: Provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to persons living with a life-threatening illness. Secondary training and placement opportunities available for those wanting to diversify to working with children or to providing spiritual care. We are willing to tailor either a community service or field education opportunity (travel stipendonly) for the needs of university or seminary students.

Time Commitment: 4 hours/week or as negotiated with Philip Aziz Centre staff.

  • The Philip Aziz Centre serves people throughout Toronto. We endeavour to place our volunteers with clients who live within a reasonable commute of their home, school or work. Training is usually done at a downtown venue, easily accessible by TTC.
