Theology of the Reformation

Investigates the theological self-understanding of the principal figures from the period of the Reformation. It will deal with the historical context in which the central ideas and issues emerged. Gabriel Biel will be probed as the immediate, latemediaeval foil for the sixteenth century reformers, as well as Erasmus, who represents the humanist alternative to evangelical conviction. Prerequisite: THEO 0531.
