Tyndale University College & Seminary, a leading Canadian Christian university and seminary, announced today that Dr. Gary Nelson has extended his term as President and Vice Chancellor through 2020.

Gary Nelson“We have been thrilled with Dr. Nelson’s leadership as he directed us through this exciting time in the life of Tyndale,” said Mr. Steven Holmes, Board Chair, in his announcement. “His collaborative style of leadership and commitment to transparency with faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors has laid a foundation which we believe will bear fruit in this second term.  We are proud to continue to work with such an outstanding leader.”

During the past five years, Dr. Nelson has led Tyndale through the renovation and development of the new 56-acre Bayview campus and the development of new degree programs at both the university college and the seminary. His commitment to students and their educational success proved a catalyst for the establishment of an Academic Success program at the undergraduate level designed to increase student persistence. Presently he has taken the lead on the new capital campaign, Impact for Engagement.

“I have been challenged in ways I did not anticipate,” said Dr. Nelson. “Our upcoming move onto the newly renovated Bayview campus positions us to engage in the educational mission that has always been a part of our 120-year history. Tyndale University College is poised to develop and grow as an undergraduate teaching-focused university. Tyndale Seminary serves as the largest graduate school of theology in Canada, preparing Christian leaders to serve in the 21st century church. The evidence of the quality of our educational and formational commitments is seen daily through the lives of our faculty, staff and student body. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to serve with them as we shape our vision and realize the opportunities before us.”
