Growing in Intercultural Competency

Reading bible and TIM Centre logo

This course invites learners to explore intercultural learning as an ongoing journey shaped by their experiences, self-reflection, and established relationships. Through personal storytelling and guided activities, participants will examine how they have learned to do something new in their own lives and use that process as a lens for understanding intercultural growth. The course introduces key ingredients for intercultural learning - such as curiosity, humility, self-awareness, and openness - and considers what happens when these elements are missing in intercultural encounters.

Drawing on real-world examples and learning from intercultural leaders, participants will analyze diverse approaches to navigating cultural differences. The course emphasizes practical reflection, encouraging participants to assess their own intercultural journey and its strengths and gaps. By the end of the course, learners will be better equipped to intentionally engage in intercultural spaces, recognize barriers to understanding, and continue developing their capacity for meaningful intercultural engagement.
