This module will explore what it means to grieve and lament, and we will learn how to help others in their time of sorrow and loss. Special attention will be paid to the Psalms as a resource for encouragement for those dealing with death.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain a deeper understanding of key biblical passages that address death, grief, and loss
- Develop theological resources to respond to common cultural misperceptions and myths surrounding the death experience
- Discover how Christians practice spiritual care for the dying and grieving
- Learn how to conduct a caring visit with those facing grief, including the appropriate use of prayers and Scripture

Facilitator
Dr. Matthew McEwen
DMin, ThM, MDiv, BA, CTPS
Matthew has served as the pastor of the Holt Free Methodist Church since 2006. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Ottawa and an M.Div., Th.M., and D.Min. from Tyndale Seminary. He is also a certified thanatologist and provides grief care to individuals and groups. Matthew volunteers at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket, where he was inducted into the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers. He teaches the Biblical and Spiritual Resources module for Tyndale’s Death, Dying, and Grief Certificate program and has developed a small‑group curriculum for the Free Methodist Church in Canada on dying well. In his spare time, he enjoys practicing karate with his children.

- Individual Modules: $153.00 (includes HST)
