General Tyndale Bursaries & Grants | Undergraduate

Tyndale has a number of general bursaries and grants available to new or returning full-time undergraduate students with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 and enrolled in minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.

Applying for General Bursaries & Grants

Submit the Tyndale Bursaries & Grants application to be considered for all General Bursaries & Grants. You do not have to complete this application in one session. The Financial Aid Office will determine General Bursaries & Grants you are eligible for based on the information you provided in your application.

  1. Go to the Tyndale Awards website.
  2. Sign in with your MyTyndale username and password.
  3. Under the Awards tab you can see all available scholarships, awards, and bursaries you can apply for.
  4. Find the Tyndale Bursaries & Grants application and click on the arrow to expand. You will then see if there are any prerequisite tasks before you can start the application, including the Student Profile Form and the Financial Need Form. You only need to complete the Student Profile Form and the Financial Need Form once every academic year to apply for any scholarships, awards, bursaries, and grants offered by Tyndale. The Student Profile Form and the Financial Need Form will reset at the end of the academic year.
    1. For the Financial Need Form, if you are applying before the start of the school year, you will need to estimate your reported financial information. In the case that your financial information changes (i.e. increased/loss in income), please inform the Student Financial Services Office and we can help you make the adjustment.
    2. Do not forget to complete the “Describe your personal or family financial circumstances” question as it helps give the financial aid committee context into your situation.
    3. You do not have to complete the application in one session. Your responses are auto-saved as you progress, so you can resume at any time.
  5. When all prerequisite tasks are met, you can click on Start Application which also submits the application for you. 

You are done! You will receive a response regarding your eligibility for financial aid within a few weeks.

Eligibility Requirements for General Bursaries & Grants

  • Bursaries and grants are awarded based on financial need. Financial need is determined by calculating the applicant's allowable educational costs minus the expected financial contribution.
  • Applicants must be in satisfactory academic standing, maintaining a minimum CGPA of 2.0 in order to be eligible for bursary funds.
  • Awarded bursaries and grants assume and will require that the student be enrolled in a full-time course load (4 or more courses).
  • Students who are not enrolled in a full-time course load (1-3 courses) and are registered with Accessibility Services may qualify to receive a prorated portion of the awarded bursaries.
    • Inform the Financial Aid Office that you are a student registered with Accessibility Services.
    • Contact Accessibility Services for more information on how to register as a student with a disability.
  • The bursary or grant will become a loan that must be repaid if a bursary or grant recipient does not meet the following conditions:
    • Student must complete the academic term(s) and not be dismissed for disciplinary reason.
    • An academic term is considered to be complete when all the required work is submitted, including the writing of the final examination.

Administration of General Bursaries & Grants

Administration of All General Bursaries & Grants

  • The bursary or grant funds will be applied directly toward the recipient’s student account (through the Student Financial Services Office)
  • All awarded bursaries and grants are paid out in 50% installments per semester (i.e. a total bursary of $1,000 will be paid out, $500 for fall semester and $500 for winter semester).
  • Student Financial Services cannot prorate financial aid awarded to students who decide to enroll in a reduced course load.*
  • Bursary and grant recipients will only be eligible to receive funds when the student is enrolled full-time.*
  • In the case a student is enrolled full-time in one semester but part-time in another, they will receive the one full-time semester's portion of the bursary or grant (Example: The recipient is eligible for a $1000 bursary and is enrolled full-time in the fall semester but part-time in the winter semester. The student will receive $500 in the fall semester and $0 in the winter semester.)
  • Unawarded bursaries or grants cannot be carried forward to a future semester or academic year.
  • Availability and amount of these bursaries and grants will vary from year to year.

Administration of General Assistance Bursaries and Donor-based Bursaries

General Assistance Bursaries are Tyndale funded need-based bursaries awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. Donor-based Bursaries are a donor funded need-based bursaries awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and meet additional criteria as specified by the donor. 

Eligible students may receive a General Assistance Bursary, Donor-based Bursary, or both. To be considered for General Assistance Bursaries and Donor-based Bursaries, students must complete the Application for Tyndale Bursaries & Grants.

For students receiving a General Assistance Bursary, a Donor-based Bursary may be awarded in place of a General Assistance Bursary.

  • In the case that the Donor-based Bursary amount is equivalent to or greater than the General Assistance Bursary amount, the Donor-based Bursary will completely replace the General Assistance Bursary.
  • In the case that the Donor-based Bursary amount is less than the General Assistance Bursary amount, the Donor-based Bursary will only replace an equivalent portion of the General Assistance Bursary. For this case, the student will receive both the Donor-based Bursary and an updated General Assistance Bursary totaling up to the original amount of the General Assistance Bursary.
  • It is the student's responsibility to update and report any bursaries to their government student aid applications (e.g. OSAP) as they may affect your funding amount.
