Black History Month

Tyndale University invites students, staff, and alumni to commemorate the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities through a special chapel speaker series and an Instagram Live discussion.

The 2021 theme for Black History Month is: “The Future is Now” and provides the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the transformative work of Black Canadians and their communities. For more information, including videos and articles, visit the Government of Canada website.

Special Chapel Speaker Series

Throughout the month of February, an exciting speaker line-up will showcase words and songs describing personal experiences of trial and triumph from a number of Tyndale community members and friends.

Instagram Live Discussion

The Black Educators of Tyndale (BET) have planned and will be hosting an Instagram Live discussion on Thursday February 25 from 8 pm till 9 pm entitled “What Happened to Black History Month?”. In the BET’s words, “We’ll chat about the pros and cons of Black History Month, what is means to people, and whether it should be cancelled.” Please consider joining BET for what promises to be a provocative, inspiring, and challenging discussion.

Show How You’re Contributing to or Observing Black History

Share you Black history experiences with us and be entered into a giveaway! Are you reading a book to educate yourself on Black history? Are you volunteering to better the racialized and improvished communities? Are you a Black person who is making your own history?

All you need to do is take a photo of you doing something to promote, contribute to, or celebrate Black history, post it on your Instagram story/post, and tag @betyndale, and comment “done” on @betyndale's Instagram post. There are no limits on entries and there will be a draw on Thursday, February 25 on Instagram Live for three Tyndale Campus Store gift cards worth $75 each.
