How to understand a course code

Each course code consists of a 4-letter departmental prefix followed by a 4-digit course number. The first three digits identify the course, while the fourth digit denotes the assigned credit hours. For example, BSTH 1013 refers to the Old Testament Scripture course, which may also be noted as BSTH 101(3) or BSTH 101. This course, like most others, is worth 3 credit hours.

A 2-digit section code follows, indicating the course’s time, delivery format, and any special program associations. The section code typically starts with a number, followed by a letter denoting the delivery format: P (in-person), S (synchronous), A (asynchronous), or B (blended). For example, regular semester courses use section codes like 1P, 1S, or 1A, while special programs use codes starting with B (modular) or Y (CCSTT).

For online or form registration, the full course code is required. In this example, a student registering for a listed in-person section of Old Testament Scripture must enter "BSTH 1013 1P" to select the desired course.
