Bob Stiles

Spiritual Direction calls us to Presence in a divided and distracted world. It is a ministry of questions helping us to hear and respond to God: Who do I believe God is? And who do I believe I am? Bob believes that a spiritual director is a loving witness and guide to the Holy Spirit’s influence to live from the centre of God’s love in everyday life. His own experience as a spiritual directee has led from an outward life of busyness towards an inward life of stillness with God. A former lay leader in an ecumenical Baptist church, Bob has also been immersed in four other traditions. His practice of Spiritual Direction is informed by the study of Christian spiritual formation, many years of involvement in both Christian and secular 12-Step programs, experience in and study of counselling, and the Center for Courage and Renewal’s “Circles of Trust.” Bob’s successful career as an executive in the investment advisory business ended abruptly with multiple treatments for cancer. The fruit of this experience came from embracing what Henri Nouwen describes as “downward mobility” a journey which led both inwards and upwards to God.
