Becoming the Beloved: Identity, Woundedness, and the Gift of the Self (Module 3 of 7)

In this module, students will spend the day reflecting on their identity as the beloved children of God. Participants will spend time learning about the three lies of identity and how Nouwen’s understanding of Life of the Beloved can help center their understanding of who they are. Students will also spend time examining what it means to become the beloved through the movements of Taken, Blessed, Broken, and Given. Lastly, we will consider what it means to journey with others as wounded healers and spiritual guides, becoming living reminders of Christ’s presence.

Learning Objectives:

  • Unmask the three lies of identity and use a targeted prayer practice to quiet specific inner compulsions.
  • Examine the four movements of the Eucharistic life (Taken, Blessed, Broken, and Given) to understand how God uniquely chooses them, affirms their original goodness, befriends their pain, and offers their lives as a gift to the world.
  • Embrace the pastoral posture of a “wounded healer” and “fellow traveler”, walking alongside others with shared vulnerability and serving as a living reminder of Christ’s presence.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Lee is the Co-Lead Pastor at Spring Garden Baptist Church in Toronto. He has over 20 years of ministry experience across a variety of ministry contexts and firmly believes in the importance of living out his identity as a beloved son of God. Outside of ministry, Sam enjoys spending time with his family, staying active, and communing with God in nature.

Refund Policy: Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of event date, will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 3-6 days before the event, we will offer you a credit for future TSFC events. Cancellation requests made within 24 hours of the event will not receive a refund nor a credit transfer.
