Yes, you can afford Tyndale! | Learn how you can cut tuition costs

Students working together

A Canadian philosopher and author once said, “Knowledge is wealth… and ignorance is poverty.” When it comes to affording your tuition, what you know makes a difference. As Garcia Green, the Student Financial Resources Specialist at Tyndale University would say, “Tuition is affordable, [it is important to] get the information that you need.”

If you are wondering if Tyndale is financially feasible, the answer is yes; you can afford Tyndale! Eligible undergraduate students receive an average of $7,000 in scholarships and awards in their first year of studies. At Tyndale University, there is a wealth of resources available to help you cut tuition costs.

Entrance scholarships

Our merit-based entrance scholarship is a great starting point.

“The President’s Scholarship is an entrance scholarship for all students who apply to Tyndale,” Garcia explains. “Once you’re accepted, you are automatically eligible to get the President’s Scholarship. There are three different categories, all of which depend on your incoming GPA.”

  1. President’s Scholarship of Merit $1,000 (3.00-3.69 GPA)
  2. President’s Scholarship of Excellence $2,000 (3.70-3.89 GPA)
  3. President’s Scholarship of Distinction $5,000 (3.90 GPA or higher)

Other awards

  • Christian Camp Service Award: This is a $500 insurance award given to students who have worked at an eligible Christian camp during the summer prior to attending Tyndale.
  • Tyndale’s Church Match Program: If your church gives a donation towards your tuition, Tyndale will match it—$100 per class up to a certain number of classes per year. This is an international program.

Returning student scholarships

Students who will be returning for their second, third, or fourth year and graduating students can also apply for scholarships. An email is sent out in the first week of December every year for each group with instructions on how to apply.

External scholarships

An external scholarship directory is also available for all Tyndale students.

“What makes external scholarships great is that, if you win one, the money comes directly to you, and you are in control of what you do with it,” Garcia adds.

How to apply for scholarships

To apply for applicable scholarships and awards, visit the financial aid website. An important date that you need to keep in mind is January 31st. That is the cutoff date for submissions for returning and graduating scholarships. All other notable dates can be found under the financial key dates page.

Bursaries and grants

Bursaries and grants are available to students who have additional financial needs. To access bursaries and grants, there are two forms that must be filled out at the beginning of the year. On the profile form, information about your volunteer history is required. On the financial needs form, you must list the amount of money needed and information about your financial circumstances. “We match what you’ve put in your profile to what is available for you in the criteria of the bursary,” says Garcia.

OSAP

Tyndale students can also apply for OSAP. When you receive your Tyndale acceptance letter, reach out to Garcia and the financial aid office and they will send you an OSAP application tip sheet. Alternatively, you can meet with them in person, and they will walk you through answering the questions.

“A Tyndale education lasts you a lifetime,” says Garcia. “From the classrooms to the community, to the people that you meet while going through the university... Everyone here is a network, and everyone believes in you. There are so many opportunities here at Tyndale, so many ways to help aid your tuition.”

If you need additional help mapping out tuition costs, email financialaid@tyndale.ca, book an appointment, or call the office so that you can get personalized help with your tuition fees.
