Over half the population of the GTA was born outside of Canada and new immigrants are coming into the city by the tens of thousands every year. Even though many social services are provided in Canada, refugees and immigrants still struggle as they seek to gain a footing for their new life in Canada. Many of these refugees are from hard to access people groups with limited access to the gospel, and their presence in Canada presents a unique opportunity to engage them with the gospel. We are in the process of setting up a center to help immigrants navigate the transition to life in Canada and at the same time engage them with the hope that we have in Jesus Christ.
As part of the internship you would help in tasks related to the establishment of the refugee center. This might include demographic research, on the ground surveys, logistical planning for services offered, hosting English conversation clubs, developing relationships with refugees and helping them with different life tasks.
As part of your internship we will train you to:
- Understand some of the key aspects of relating to people from different cultures
- Understand some of the basics of relating to people from different faith backgrounds
- Start conversations with people
- How to bridge conversations to the gospel
- Share your faith cross-culturally
