Tyndale University is pleased to announce several significant faculty promotions and appointments:

Dr. Andrew Witt Promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure

Tyndale University is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Andrew Witt to Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Theology, with tenure, as of July 1, 2025. Since joining Tyndale in 2018, Dr. Witt has brought deep expertise in Old Testament studies, particularly the Psalms. He is the author of David Without End and is currently writing a commentary for the Bible in God’s World series. Known for his engaging teaching and theological insight, Dr. Witt helps students connect Scripture with everyday life. His promotion reflects his scholarly excellence and commitment to Tyndale’s mission of faith-informed education.

Dr. Daniel Scott Promoted to Full Professor with Tenure

Tyndale University is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Daniel Scott to Full Professor of Christian Ministries, effective July 1, 2025. A faculty member since 1995, Dr. Scott has served in numerous leadership roles, including Academic Dean and Director of Modular Programs. He played a key role in launching Tyndale’s Bachelor of Education program and several academic partnerships. Dr. Scott is also Senior Minister at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Bradford, where he has led innovative community initiatives. His promotion recognizes decades of faithful service, academic leadership, and a deep commitment to integrating faith, education, and community engagement.

Dr. Alex Trew, Lecturer in Theology (Seminary)

Dr. Alex Trew has joined as a part-time Lecturer in Theology (Seminary), effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Trew recently completed his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, where his dissertation focused on “The Rule of Death: The Ontological and Ethical Settings of Death in the Personalist Theologies of Christos Yannaras and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.” He brings a strong interdisciplinary background in theology, philosophy, and patristics, and has taught in both Christian and secular academic settings.

Rebekah McNeilly, Lecturer of Health and Human Services

Rebekah McNeilly has joined our undergraduate studies faculty as Lecturer of Health and Human Services, effective July 1, 2025. Ms. McNeilly is a PhD Candidate at the University of Alberta focusing on criminology. She has also earned an MA. and a BA (Honours) in Sociology from McMaster University.

Nicole Fletcher, Assistant Professor of Education

Nicole Fletcher has joined the Education Department as Assistant Professor of Education, effective July 21, 2025. Nicole, known to many as Nikki, has taught in Tyndale’s BEd program since 2020 and is already well-acquainted with our teacher candidates and campus. As a Tyndale alumna, she brings both professional and personal insight to her new role. Nikki’s research and teaching expertise span environmental education, arts pedagogy, creativity, and inquiry-based learning. Her passion for teaching and commitment to education make her a valuable addition to our faculty.

Dr. James Watson, Internship Program Coordinator

Dr. James Watson has joined as Internship Program Coordinator and Lecturer in Practical Theology, effective August 1, 2025. Dr. Watson brings extensive experience in church planting, revitalization, and community engagement across Canada. He holds a PhD from Fuller Theological Seminary, an MDiv from McMaster Divinity College, and a BA from McMaster University. His current research includes projects on multicultural church belonging and Canadian church planting. Having taught in Tyndale’s Master’s and DMin programs since 2016, Dr. Watson is a familiar face, and we’re excited for his continued contributions to our community and programs.

Mark Cassar, Lecturer of Education

Mark Cassar has joined the Education Department as Lecturer, effective August 13, 2025. Mark is a seasoned educator with over 34 years of experience as a teacher, principal, consultant, and lecturer. He integrates research-based practice with a Christ-centred philosophy, promoting equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership. A Master of Education graduate from OISE, he served nearly 20 years as principal with Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. Mark has authored leadership texts, collaborated with publishers like Nelson and Pearson, and lectured at OISE and Western. Honoured with the Ontario Premier’s Award, he sees teaching as a faith-driven vocation rooted in justice, excellence, and compassion.
