We are very excited to announce that the province has approved our application for a name change. We will now be called Tyndale University!

Dr. Gary Nelson, President and Vice Chancellor says, “The Ministry of Colleges & Universities (MCU) decision is an affirmation of the quality of programs that we offer and our capacity to continue to develop new programs that meet or exceed the Ministry’s standards. With this change we can now plan for expanded program opportunities, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.”

Within our undergraduate studies, Tyndale’s academic learning outcomes are comparable with those of any Bachelor of Arts program in the province; these programs provide access and entrance to top graduate schools throughout the world and employment opportunities in a wide range of fields. Our Bachelor of Education program has gained significant reputation, and our teacher candidates are actively sought after. Even with these noteworthy outcomes, the term University College has proven difficult to explain and promote.

“We have observed that students and families making post-secondary decisions are unfamiliar with the term and interpret it to mean something less than a university degree. We also observe that we are an attractive option for undergraduate and graduate programs for international students; on the international stage, however, the term University College is confusing,” states Kevin Kirk, SVP External Relations & Enrollment Management.

Tyndale Seminary has an exceptional reputation throughout North America and globally. With this name change, Tyndale Seminary will continue to be known and will be visible.

Within our Seminary/graduate studies, the MCU recognizes the quality, rigour and self-evaluation standards of our programs. The recognition of the Counselling program by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario attests to our ability to develop additional advanced degree options. At the same time, many of our seminary students are seeking to serve the global church. The ability to use the name Tyndale University on their resume creates opportunities for these graduates where challenges currently exist.

The name Tyndale University is a clear indication of the pathways our programs provide, at the same time continuing our unique educational mission. For over 125 years, we have remained true to and never deviated from our roots. We celebrate the innovation and foresight that is so much a part of our ethos. This name provides an exceptional platform to launch the next 125 years of Tyndale’s mission.
