Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct | Tyndale University Library

The Tyndale Library Code of Conduct exists to ensure a safe, respectful, and quiet environment for all who use the space. As a shared resource, the library relies on the mutual respect and consideration of all patrons. Everyone using the library, including faculty, staff, students, and community members, is expected to be familiar with and follow library policies. Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and productive environment.

Respect and Consideration

We ask that all library patrons show respect, consideration, and understanding to other library users and library. Discrimination and/or harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Everyone using the space will follow the direction of library staff. Library staff may approach patrons at any time to intervene or mediate behaviour that does not support a welcoming environment.

Food and Drink

  • Food is not permitted in the library. This includes both meals and snack food.
  • Drinks are permitted in a sealed container. Secured, screw on, tops are preferred.
  • If you spill something in the library, please alert library staff immediately.

Phone and Video Calls

Phone and video calls may not be taken in the library. You will be asked by library staff to take your call outside the library.

Online Classes

Students may use public library space for online classes if headphones are worn. If the class requires spoken participation, you will need to leave the library.

Group Study Rooms

Group study rooms are located in the ABBA Resource Centre and are intended for collaborative study and group projects. Faculty and staff needing space for classes, meetings, or events should contact Campus and Conference Services to find appropriate space on campus. These rooms are also not intended for online classes.

Patrons using the group study rooms are asked to respect the following policies:

  • Food is not permitted in group study rooms.
  • Drinks must have secure lids or caps.
  • Noise levels must be kept to a minimum. We understand that collaboration isn’t done in complete silence, but we ask that you respect that others are studying in the space outside.
  • If a patron is more than 20 minutes late for their reservation, it will be cancelled, and the room will be booked to another patron.
  • Group study rooms must be vacated ten minutes before the library closes.

Children in the Library

Children less than 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the library. An adult must supervise the children's use of all library resources and remain with them at all times.

Dress Code

Shirts, shoes and other appropriate attire must be worn in the library at all times.

Unattended Items

Please do not leave valuable items unattended. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
