Biography

Fady Mekhael is a native Copt-Arab Egyptian who specializes in New Testament and early Judaism, with a special interest in Luke-Acts, NT interpretations of Jesus’s death, and the Jewish sacrificial system. Before teaching at Tyndale, Fady taught courses at McMaster University in the field of Biblical Studies as he continues to finalize his dissertation on Jesus’s sacrificial death in Luke-Acts. Additionally, Fady taught Biblical Studies courses at the European School of Theology and Culture (Germany). Fady completed a Master of Theology, focusing on New Testament studies, at Duke University following his graduation from the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo. For several years, Fady worked as a Bible Translation Officer with the Bible Society of Egypt, where he completed the consultancy program with the United Bible Societies to translate the Bible into dialects of unreached areas in the Middle East. Moreover, Fady led peacebuilding projects that aimed at reducing sectarian violence in the Middle East with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, of the Presbyterian Church of Egypt. His academic publications include a chapter on Philemon from a Coptic perspective for a Global Reader of the New Testament textbook (forthcoming), a review of gender and second temple Judaism studies in Studies in Religion/Sciences Religieuses, and contributed as an editor of the Arabic Study Bible. Fady lives in Hamilton, ON, with his wife and son, and is still not comfortable with the winter in Canada.

He is teaching an asynchronous course on New Testament Theology and History in the Spring Summer 2024 semester.
