In 2002, Esther Chan began working as the Mandarin Broadcast Coordinator for InTouch Ministries. Her job is to make sure Mandarin versions of Dr. Charles Stanley’s messages get translated into Mandarin for airing on Toronto and Vancouver Fairchild Radio stations.

It is also her job to help listeners with prayer support, spiritual guidance and Bible knowledge.

“Many listeners called and asked me questions about faith, Christian living, marriage and relationships problems,” she says. “I often felt inadequate to solve their problems without the proper skill of counselling.”

“The three years of study at Tyndale … equipped me to be a better Christian counsellor,” she says. “I had much confidence to be a good people helper after graduation.” She graduated from Tyndale in 2009 with an MDiv in Clinical Counselling.

“The immigrants from Mainland China always face many pressures, which were caused by adjusting to the new environment and different culture. When I studied counselling at Tyndale, I learned how to understand their situations and their spiritual and emotional needs.”

“A couple came to Canada from Mainland China and … I invited them to our church services, and shared the Gospel with them. I mentored them until they became Christian, and now they are church leaders and actively serve the Lord.”

Esther also assists her husband, Rev. David Chan, in their work at Pickering Community Baptist Church east of Toronto. “Although there is diversity, we are unified in the family of God,” she says of the multicultural congregation.
