Primary/Junior Track with a Focus on Teaching French as a Second Language

The Primary/Junior FSL track will prepare you to teach Primary grades (Kindergarten to grade 3) and Junior grades (4 to 6), and includes a focus on teaching French as a Second Language (FSL). Invitations to use oral and written French will be given throughout the BEd program.

Additional Admissions Requirements

In addition to the General Admission Requirements, Primary/Junior track applicants who wish to include a focus on Teaching French as a Second Language in their program will be required to demonstrate proficiency in both written and oral French. If invited for an interview, applicants will be asked one of the interview questions in French, and are expected to respond in French. Applicants must also pass the written French Language Proficiency Assessment.

Track Degree Requirements

Teacher Candidates in this Teaching French as a Second Language track must successfully complete EDUP 509 AND EDUP 510, at least one practicum placement in a French as a Second Language classroom environment, plus all other requirements to graduate. Teacher Candidates in this track will graduate having completed a total of 63 credit hours (instead of 60) and approximately 110 practicum days.

If Primary/Junior Teacher Candidates successfully complete EDUP 509 and all other program requirements, but do not successfully complete EDUP 510, they will have completed a total of 60 credit hours and approximately 110 practicum days. These candidates will be eligible to graduate with the Bachelor of Education Primary/Junior track degree, only without the designation of Focus on Teaching French as a Second Language.
